The project Layers of Change, inspired by the Cheonggyecheon in Seoul, combines flood protection, urban greening and social spaces. By rerouting the Wienzeile, additional river space is created. Three distinct courtyards—private, semi-public, and public—offer places for retreat, neighborhood interaction, and community life. Drawing on Korean precedents, these spaces are tailored to specific needs of urban dwellers and thus enhance the social and ecological qualities of the 6th district.

Phase 1: Analyzing the Wienfluss
First we analyzed the existing structure of the Wienfluss. This helped to identify potentials to influence our redesign proposals for turning it into a large scale Greenway.
Phase 2: Understanding the bigger scale
During two weeks our group visited multiple sites along the Cheonggyecheon river in Seoul to better understand the scale and variety of the urban river redesign.
Phase 3: Digital remodeling
The process to change the Wienfluss into a large scale Greenway involved remodeling a specific section of the river. Finally the existing topography was changed. To create a public space it was important to add new green elements and pathways into the pointcloud model.
